Teen hit by car in Mattapan
MATTAPAN, Mass. -- A teenager was hit by car while crossing a street in Mattapan on Monday morning.
The teen was hit at the intersection of Babson Street and Norfolk Street.
The victim, 13, was an 8th grader at the Mildred Avenue Middle School. He was on his way to school when he was struck by the minivan.
Residents said the area where he was hit is a busy and dangerous stretch of road.
"To see people zooming down the street...we actually tried to get them to get speed bumps, but it wasn't working," said a Mattapan resident.
He was treated at the scene and taken to a Boston Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Police interviewed the driver of the car.
The victim was assigned to a school bus, and it remains unclear as to why he was walking to school.
