MBTA officials investigate minor collision
BOSTON -- Trains are back on track as MBTA officials investigate why two trains collided at the Boylston T stop on Tuesday morning.
A Green Line trolley heading into Boston collided with another trolley at 178 Tremont St. near the Boylston Station stop.
"A train collided into another train, but it was more like a bump. It was a minor incident," said MBTA spokesperson Lydia Rivera.
One of the trolleys was waiting at a light when it was rear-ended by the other trolley, causing minor damage. Neither train derailed. Both were evacuated and taken out of service.
When fire officials arrived at the scene, passengers had already evacuated both trolleys. Police cleared the scene after they determined there were no injuries.
Green Line service was disrupted for 15 minutes.
"I was coming from the B line on Commonwealth Ave and it was well over an hour. They just kept saying it was delayed. They didn't say why," said commuter Kate Hollaway.
Last May, two Green Line trains collided just two stops away at the Government Center T stop. 49 people were sent to the hospital.
The operator, 24-year old Aiden Quinn had been texting his girlfriend at the time. The incident led to the T's zero tolerance policy banning cell phones.
MBTA officials said it's premature for them to talk about how the accident happened and that they need to complete their investigation.
